Ancient Olympic athletes ate honey and dried figs before competing to enhance their performance. From antiquity to the present day, honey has not only been a treasured sweetener, but a food infused with symbolic meaning in Greece. A symbol of fertility, good life and good fortune, honey is regularly used in family rituals like weddings and housewarmings.
