JOTIS Bechamel Mix
Béchamel is a classic French sauce made with a roux of butter, flour and milk. Add cheese to the warm mixture and this rich, white sauce will reach even greater heights of savory deliciousness! At JOTIS, we’ve taken the hard work out of making a Béchamel sauce from scratch. Each package of our Béchamel Mix contains 3 sachets of dry ingredients. Add 6.25 cups of cold milk to the 3 sachets, blend with a hand mixer for 1-2 minutes, and “voilà!” - you’ll have the basis for a Béchamel that tastes homemade. Add melted butter, grated cheese, salt and pepper and JOTIS Béchamel Mix will add creamy richness to lasagnas, potato or veggie gratins and mac and cheese dishes! As JOTIS is a Greek company, founded by Ioannis and Maria Yiotis in 1930, we would be remiss without sharing three classic dishes for which French Béchamel – and its Greek sister,“Besamel” with the addition of egg yolks – is an absolute necessity: Moussaka (a layered eggplant dish with potato and, sometimes, ground meat), Pastitsio (baked pasta with ground lamb or beef) and Melitzanes Papoutsakia (small stuffed eggplants).
