A family-owned business located in Fresno, California, we are the oldest and only manufacturer of premium bulgur in the United States. Bulgur is a versatile and nutritious culinary ingredient that has been a mainstay of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines for thousands of years. This “ancient grain” is made with whole wheat that is cleaned, parboiled, dried, ground into particles, and sifted into distinct sizes. Our #3 Coarse Traditional Bulgur is ideal for pilafs, stuffing, casseroles and vegetarian tacos. It is also a perfect thickening ingredient for soups, and will add wonderful textural variety to salads and artisanal bread. Because bulgur is always parboiled, the cooking time is much faster than rice! Sunnyland Mills #3 Coarse Traditional Bulgur is a delicious component for a roasted butternut squash or roasted beet salad, topped walnuts or pistachios and feta cheese or Greek yogurt. To amplify the inherent nutty flavor profile of our coarse bulgur for warm preparations, toast the grains in butter for 5 minutes before adding your cooking liquid. Bulgur wheat is a rich source of fiber, protein and naturally occurring vitamins and minerals, including B vitamins, iron, phosphorus and manganese. Because bulgur has a lower glycemic index than pasta or rice, it is perfect for diabetics. A great grain for vegan, vegetarians and omnivores, Bulgur is not recommended for anyone with Celiac Disease or with a gluten intolerance.
